Can green finance reduce carbon emission? A theoretical analysis and empirical evidence from China.

As an important way for China to achieve its dual-carbon goal, green finance has become the foundation for promoting high-quality economic development in China. In order to clarify the mechanism of green finance on carbon emissions, this paper puts green finance into the economic model and deduces the relationship between green finance and carbon emission reduction. This paper is based on the panel data of 30 provinces in China (excluding Tibet, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) from 2008 to 2019, using the individual fixed effect model, dynamical model, mediator model, and SDM model to study the impact of green finance on carbon emissions and its impact path of upgrading of the industrial structure and the development of science and technology based on the measurement of the green finance development index of each province by the entropy method. The findings show that the development of green finance can reduce carbon emission significantly, which can be sustained until at least the third phase and generates spatial spillover effects; regional heterogeneity analysis finds that the development of green finance shows geographical discrepancies: compared with the eastern and western regions, the development of green finance in central region can reduce carbon emissions more significantly; not only can the development of green finance directly reduce carbon emission, but also through the upgrading of industrial structure and technological innovation. The research not only provides a new perspective and supplementary empirical evidence for understanding the carbon emission reduction effect of green finance, but also offers some useful references for green finance to contribute to carbon emission reduction.

Digital carbon neutrality: evidence of carbon emission reduction based on digital inclusive finance.

As a powerful engine for economic reform and curbing carbon emissions, digital inclusive finance provides solid support for achieving the goal of digital carbon neutrality. This study reveals the positive effect of digital inclusive finance on carbon emission reduction and the deeper reasons behind it by digging deeper into the panel data of 213 cities in China. The study adopts advanced empirical analysis methods to rigorously test the association between digital inclusive finance and carbon emissions. The results show that there is a strong positive correlation between the booming development of digital inclusive finance and the significant decline in carbon emissions. This finding remains solid after several rounds of robustness tests, which fully proves the reliability of the research results. Further mechanism analysis reveals the multiple paths of digital financial inclusion on carbon emission reduction. First, it promotes the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure by optimizing the allocation of financial resources, thus reducing the proportion of high-carbon emission industries. Second, digital inclusive finance attracts more foreign capital inflows and introduces advanced low-carbon technologies and management experience, further promoting the development of low-carbon economy. In addition, the study also found that the differences between different cities in terms of geographic location and city size have a significant impact on the carbon emission reduction effect of digital inclusive finance. In particular, the carbon emission reduction effect of digital inclusive finance is particularly significant in western regions, central cities, and first-tier cities. In response to these findings, this paper proposes a series of targeted policy recommendations. First, the financial service system should be further optimized to increase the coverage and penetration of digital inclusive finance, especially in less developed regions and small- and medium-sized cities. Second, regional policy synergies should be strengthened to form a strong synergy to promote the development of a low-carbon economy. In addition, it should guide capital flows to low-carbon industries and encourage enterprises to increase green technology research and development and application, while actively promoting low-carbon consumption concepts and guiding consumers to form green consumption habits. Through the implementation of these measures, it is expected that the potential of digital inclusive finance in the development of a low-carbon economy will be further stimulated, making a greater contribution to the realization of the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

The Carbon Emission Reduction Effects of the Quality and Quantity of R&D Activities: Evidence from Chinese Provinces

Research and Development (R&D) have significant impacts on carbon emissions, yet the specific data on R&D capital stock and carbon emissions have not been released by Chinese officials, hindering in-depth analysis. In light of this, this study calculates the R&D capital stock of Chinese provinces based on the SNA2008 framework and the BEA method, and estimates the carbon emissions from energy consumption and cement production using the carbon emission factor method. It then examines the carbon emission reduction effects of the quality and quantity of R&D activities at the provincial level. We find that the quality of R&D activities has a significant carbon emission reduction effect, which is stronger in regions with high levels of economic growth and marketization, and this effect strengthens over time. Moreover, mechanism analysis shows that both the quality and quantity of R&D activities reduce carbon emissions by promoting industrial structure upgrading. This paper expands the analytical approach and framework for the carbon reduction effects of R&D activities and offers significant policy and practical implications.

The impact of green credit on environmental quality: empirical evidence from China.

As an innovative financial instrument, green credit is a new driving force for environmental governance. To study the impact of green credit on environmental quality, this paper uses the provincial panel data from 2007 to 2020 to construct a panel model for analysis based on the comprehensive environmental quality index. At the same time, it discusses the mechanism and regional heterogeneity of green credit affecting environmental quality. The results show that green credit significantly improves the overall quality of the environment, which has a significant effect on air quality and green quality but has no significant impact on water quality and soil quality. Green credit improves environmental quality by improving green technology innovation and promoting industrial structure upgrading. At the same time, there is obvious heterogeneity in the environmental effect of green credit. Among them, the environmental quality improvement effect of the eastern region and the carbon emission pilot area is more evident than that of the central and western regions and the non-carbon emission pilot area. This paper has important implications for promoting the development of green credit and giving full play to the environmental effects of green credit to achieve sustainable goals.

Does Industrial Intelligence Promote Sustainable Employment?

One of the key driving factors for achieving the goal of sustainable economic development is to ensure decent employment opportunities. This article explores the relationship between industrial intelligence and sustainable development in China from the perspective of employment. Based on interprovincial panel data from 2006 to 2019, using the fixed-effect regression model and mediating-effect regression model, this study empirically tests the impact of industrial intelligence on sustainable employment in China. The following conclusions are drawn: (1) Industrial intelligence has a significant positive impact on the overall scale of employment. Industrial intelligence has promoted the optimization and upgrading of employment skill structure and industrial structure. Industrial intelligence will reduce the employment proportion of low-skilled labor and increase the employment proportion of medium-skilled labor and high-skilled labor. Industrial intelligence significantly reduces the employment share of the manufacturing sector and increases the employment share of the service sector. (2) Industrial intelligence reduces employment levels through capital deepening effects. Industrial intelligence has significantly improved regional labor productivity and significantly improved employment levels through productivity effects. (3) The results of regional heterogeneity show that industrial intelligence has promoted the improvement of employment level and the upgrading of employment structure in the eastern region but has not had a significant positive impact on other regions.

Unlocking Economic Resilience: A New Methodological Approach and Empirical Examination under Digital Transformation

Economic resilience is crucial for urban sustainability as it ensures stability and growth in the face of external shocks, promotes social cohesion and inclusivity, fosters environmental sustainability, and enhances cities’ adaptability to future challenges. This study expands the conventional perspective on economic resilience beyond the context of shocks, focusing on the inherent resilience of regional economic systems. A novel method for quantifying economic resilience is introduced, emphasizing system sensitivity and adaptability. Using Chinese prefecture-level city data and an econometric model, we empirically examine how Fintech, a major digital transition in current urban systems, affects economic resilience. The findings reveal that Fintech has a substantial positive effect on economic resilience, primarily through the upgrading of industrial structures and technological innovation. Furthermore, there is significant regional heterogeneity in the impact of Fintech on economic resilience, with more pronounced contributions in the east, central, and western regions of China, as opposed to the northeast. Additionally, the impact of Fintech on economic resilience is more substantial in large-scale cities. The promotion of economic resilience through digital transformation serves as a potent risk prevention measure. Understanding the role of economic resilience in urban systems holds valuable implications for countries worldwide.

Entrepreneurship promotion policies and urban carbon emission efficiency: does environmental concerns matter?

To foster economic and social development, many countries have adopted entrepreneurship promotion policies. However, existing research on entrepreneurship promotion policy primarily focuses on its employment incentive effect, while neglecting to examine the underlying impact mechanism and its effect on environmental sustainability. Based on the quasi-natural experiment of China’s National Entrepreneurial Pilot Cities, this paper employs the difference-in-differences model to examine the impact of the National Entrepreneurial Cities pilot policy on urban carbon emission efficiency. The study finds that China’s National Entrepreneurial Cities pilot policy has generally impaired urban carbon emission efficiency, and a series of robustness tests show that the results are robust. National Entrepreneurial Cities pilot policy decreases urban carbon emission efficiency by increasing the proportion of necessity entrepreneurship, inhibiting the upgrading of industrial structure, and increasing overcapacity. The government’s environmental concerns and the public’s environmental concerns play a prominent role in improving the adverse impact of the National Entrepreneurial Cities on carbon emission efficiency and mainly play a significant role in central and western cities, cities with low per capita GDP, cities with high economic growth pressure, and resource-dependent cities. The research of this paper provides a reference for the government to promote entrepreneurship while taking environmental effects into account.

Research on the mechanism of enhancing digital innovation capability of strategic emerging enterprises-taking Haining manufacturing enterprises as an example

In the context of the digital economy era, digital transformation has become a key driving force for the development of strategic emerging enterprises. The enhancement of digital innovation ability is especially important for strategic emerging industries, which can not only improve the market competitiveness of enterprises, but also promote the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure. After investigation and analysis, strategic emerging industries face the challenges of imperfect management and organization system within enterprises, weak government support, and insufficient innovation atmosphere in the social environment on the road to digitalization, and the enhancement of their digital innovation capability often requires the synergy of internal enterprise mechanism and external support. To address the above issues, this study takes manufacturing enterprises in Haining City, Zhejiang Province, as the object of research, and investigates the mechanism of enhancing the digital innovation capability of strategic emerging enterprises from three levels: the enterprise level, the government level, and the social environment level. This study has important theoretical and practical significance for understanding how strategic emerging enterprises can enhance their competitiveness through digital means, and how governments can formulate effective policies to support enterprises' digital innovation.

Investigating the Influence of Digital Economy Growth on Industrial Structural Optimization and Upgrading

With the rapid development of the social economy, science and technology continue to upgrade and optimize, ushering in the digital era, which provides technical support for industrial innovation and development across all sectors. At this stage, vigorously developing the digital economy has gradually become the only means to optimize and upgrade the industrial structure. Therefore, local leaders and relevant departments need to enhance the importance of constructing the digital economy, enabling the local industrial structure to be optimized and upgraded under the impetus of the digital economy, ultimately promoting overall economic high-quality development. To this end, this paper, combined with existing research results, first elaborates on the positive impact of the digital economy on the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure. It then analyzes the challenges hindering the process of industrial structure optimization and upgrading and proposes practical pathways to address them, benefiting relevant stakeholders.

Green credit and regional industrial structure upgrading: Evidence from China

China's economy has transitioned from a phase of rapid growth to one focused on high-quality development. The increasing emphasis on ecological and environmental protection has elevated the significance of green credit as a crucial driver for industrial structural upgrading. This study employs panel data analysis to examine the role of green credit in facilitating such upgrading, while also exploring regional heterogeneity. By fostering technological innovation, green credit can effectively stimulate enterprises to innovate and drive industrial structural transformation. Lastly, several recommendations are proposed to further promote the sustainable development of green credit.

Study on the Impact of Digital Inclusive Finance on Urban and Rural Residents' Entrepreneurship

Based on the number of newly registered enterprises each year as a measure of the level of entrepreneurship among urban and rural residents, this study empirically examines the impact of digital inclusive finance on entrepreneurial activities based on panel data from 31 provinces across the country and digital inclusive finance indices from 2011 to 2020. The findings reveal that digital inclusive finance significantly promotes entrepreneurial activities overall. In terms of specific indicators, this promotion effect is primarily driven by the dimensions of coverage breadth and usage depth. When dividing the total sample into four regions: East, Central, West, and Northeast, the study further explores the impact of digital inclusive finance on entrepreneurial behavior in urban and rural areas and across different regions. Therefore, it is recommended to accelerate the development and construction of digital inclusive finance, strengthen the establishment of comprehensive digital infrastructure, and promote the deep integration of digital inclusive finance with traditional industries. This will optimize the allocation of financial resources while also achieving industrial structure optimization and upgrading.

Environmental regulation influences urban land green use efficiency: Incentive or disincentive effect? Evidence from China

China's crude economic development has led to high pollution and inefficiency of urban land use. Environmental regulation (Er) is crucial for governments to promote green growth and efficient land use. Using a dataset of 271 cities in China from 2011 to 2020, this paper investigates the threshold effect of green innovation in science and technology and industrial structure optimization on Er impacts of urban land green use efficiency (Ulee). The results show that (1) Er positively affects Ulee. (2) There is a threshold effect of green innovation in science and technology (Gin) and industrial structure upgrading (Ind) in Er affecting Ulee, and the force decreases as the threshold value increases. (3) Within the examination of heterogeneity, the impact of Er on Ulee is more significant in eastern, high levels of urbanization and large cities, but the force of action is smaller. Based on the nonlinear force of Er, it is crucial to maximize the effectiveness of green land use by giving full play to the interactive synergistic effect of the "combination box" and dynamically and flexibly adjusting the intensity of Er according to the time, place, and state of urban development.

Research on the development status, problems, and optimization path of green finance in commercial banks

With the green economy gradually becoming the trend of global economic development, green finance has also risen to China's national strategy and become a new blue ocean business for the future development of commercial banks. The development of green finance not only plays an obvious role in improving economic efficiency and realizing the transformation and upgrading of industrial structure, but also plays a great significance role in environmental protection, and realize the harmony and unity of man and nature, which is an important initiative to realize the progress and development of the country.The article firstly points out the problems in the process of green finance development, and analyzes the challenges faced in the process of green finance development. Finally, the article gives the optimized ways for commercial banks to develop green finance from four perspectives, such as learning international law governance experience, introducing the Equator Principles for project evaluation, improving policy support, strengthening government guidance, strengthening product research and development and innovation, and attaching importance to talent cultivation, so as to provide a reference for China to further promote green finance and achieve high-quality development.

Exploring Spatial-Temporal Coupling and Its Driving Factors of Green and Low-Carbon Urban Land Use Efficiency and High-Quality Economic Development in China

Green and low-carbon use of urban land (GLUUL) and high-quality economic development (HED) are two closely linked and mutually reinforcing systems, and their coordinated development is of great theoretical and practical significance to the realization of green and sustainable urban development. Based on theoretical analysis, this paper used data from 2005 to 2020 to measure GLUUL efficiency and HED level and their coupling coordination degree (CCD) successively of 282 cities in China, and then analyzed in-depth the main factors affecting CCD and its spatial–temporal heterogeneity using the GTWR model. This study found that (1) GLUUL efficiency and HED levels are increasing with different trends, and the development is unbalanced. High-value cities in the two systems show a staggered distribution pattern. (2) The CCD of the two was dominated by primary and intermediate coordination types, and the overall became increasingly coordinated, with the “intermediate coordination—advanced development” type having the highest representation. (3) There is a gradual convergence of CCD spatial differences, showing an overall spatial distribution pattern that is “high in the northwest and southeast, low in the central area”. (4) The influence degree and direction of different factors on CCD are distinguishing. The positive impact of industrial structure upgrading (Isu) is obviously greater than other factors, which has the strongest effect on the industrial corridor along the Yangtze River and the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region. The findings can offer insightful recommendations for promoting sustainable development in China and similar developing countries and regions.

The Influence of Digital Economy Development and Household Consumption Upgrading on Industrial Structure Upgrading

Data elements have become one of the important factors of production. This paper uses the panel data from 10 provinces in China from 2022 to 2023 for empirical analysis, studies the impact of digital economy on the upgrading of industrial structure, and analyzes how the digital economy promotes the upgrading of industrial structure from the perspective of residents' consumption. The results show that the development of digital economy has a significant positive effect on the industrial structure upgrading, and the effect of digital economy after the threshold value; the development of digital economy can promote the industrial structure upgrading by promoting the consumption upgrading; the effect of digital economy on promoting the industrial structure upgrading decreases from the west to the east.

The Impact of the Digital Economy on Employment Scale in the Yangtze River Delta Region

Abstract Employment is the greatest livelihood and the most basic support for economic development. In recent years, the scale and scope of digital economy has expanded dramatically, triggering revolutionary changes in employment patterns. Especially in the Yangtze River Delta region. This paper is based on panel data of 41 prefecture level cities in the Yangtze River Delta region from 2011 to 2021. Firstly, the fixed-effects regression model is used to empirically analyze the impact of the digital economy on the employment scale in the YRD region, and the intermediary mechanism model is further used to verify the role of industrial structure upgrading in the digital economy's impact on the employment scale. The study finds that: The digital economy has significantly expanded the employment scale in the YRD region, indicating that the employment creation effect is greater than the employment substitution effect. In the heterogeneity analysis, this impact is more significant in the central cities of the YRD region, areas with higher levels of urbanization and well-developed digital infrastructures. The digital economy can promote the optimization and upgrading of the employment market in the YRD region through the upgrading of the industrial structure, expanding the scale of employment, optimizing the employment structure. How do industrial land transfer modes impact carbon emissions? An intermediation perspective based on industrial structure.

Industrial land is currently the main carrier and important source of global carbon emissions, and as the world's largest developing country, China's large-scale and diversified industrial land supply has made it the world's largest carbon emitter. Therefore, researching the impact of different supply methods of industrial land on carbon emissions and its impact paths in China can help provide a reference for other countries to reduce carbon emissions from the perspective of urban industrial land management, which is of great significance for effectively promoting global carbon reduction. Based on this, this paper analyses the impact of different supply methods of industrial land on carbon emissions and its urban heterogeneity using the SYS-GMM and chain-mediated effects models for 285 cities in China from 2008 to 2020. The study found that, in general, the impact of different industrial land transfer modes on carbon emission has hysteresis and persistence. Agreement and listing transfer with government intervention can significantly exacerbate carbon emissions, while more market-based bidding and auction transfer can dampen carbon emissions. In terms of intermediary effects, the transfer of industrial land by agreement and listing will inhibit the rationalization and advancement of industrial structure, thus aggravating carbon emissions. The transfer of industrial land by bidding and auction will create barriers to entry and a crowding-out effect, promote the rationalization of industrial structure and the transformation and upgrading of industrial structure and moderate carbon emissions. In terms of city heterogeneity, there is urban heterogeneity in the impact of industrial land transfer on carbon emissions in cities with different economic types. Bidding and auction transfer for industrial land in both economically developed and less developed cities can promote carbon pollution. While the more developed urban economy makes the intermediary effect of industrial structure not significant. In the future, it is necessary to strictly control the scale of industrial land supply; the whole process supervision mechanism of industrial land allocation and differentiated industrial land supply strategies will provide useful experience for many developing countries in allocating industrial land to mitigate carbon emissions, generating effective contributions to global carbon emission reduction.

The Impact of the Integration of the Culture Industry and Tourism on Regional Green Development: Empirical Evidence from China

The concept of “green development” has garnered increasing recognition and prominence in recent years, attracting the attention of various countries and regions. How to achieve green development has become a pressing issue for the government. The integration of the culture industry and tourism has had a profound impact on regional green development. This paper employs the entropy method to assess the level of regional green development, and it employs the coupling coordination model to evaluate the degree of integration of the culture industry and tourism across 30 provincial administrative regions in China from 2011 to 2021. Additionally, an econometric model is constructed to empirically examine the impact of the integration of the culture industry and tourism on regional green development, as well as its underlying mechanism. The findings of this study indicate the following: (1) The integration of the culture industry and tourism significantly enhances regional green development. (2) With the improvement in the regional green development level, the integration of the culture industry and tourism is playing a gradually stronger role in promoting regional green development. (3) Further analysis of the mechanism reveals that the integration of the culture industry and tourism enhances regional green development by facilitating the upgrading of the tourism industrial structure. (4) Environmental regulation policies reinforce the role of the integration of the culture industry and tourism in promoting regional green development. These research findings contribute to enhancing our understanding of the impact of the integration of the culture industry and tourism on regional green development, providing empirical evidence and policy recommendations for the government to facilitate the integration of the culture industry and tourism and further promote green development.

The Impact of Digital Economy Development on China's Industrial Structure Upgrading—An Empirical Analysis Based on Provincial Panel Data

On the basis of theoretical analysis, this paper measures the upgrading level of industrial structure from three dimensions: the speed of industrial transformation, the advanced level of industrial structure and the rationalization level of industrial structure, and uses China's provincial panel data from 2011 to 2020 to explore the effect and mechanism of digital economy development on the upgrading of industrial structure. The results show that the development of digital economy can significantly promote the upgrading of China's industrial structure, and this effect is the most significant in the central region; The level of regional innovation is an important transmission path of the development effect of digital economy.
